DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men’s golf team opens its 2017 season at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Saturday through Monday at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. Competition will get underway at 7:45 a.m. MST on all three days. The Bulldogs had a strong fall season with all five of their top five scorers averaging under 78 per round. Junior Drew Ison led the squad in all five tournaments and carded 11 rounds of 75 or less. Fellow junior Matt Lavery recorded an average round of 76.6 and finished the fall season with a season-low 54-hole score of 226 (74-76-76) at the ODU/Outer Banks Invitational. Freshman Chase Wicklund scored an average round of 77 over 15 rounds, while sophomores Jack Kennedy and Tommi Avant averaged 77.6 and 77.9 per round, respectively. Following the Loyola Intercollegiate, Drake heads to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on March 6-7 for the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
