first_imgDerby are set to launch a £2.5million move for Brighton’s Dale Stephens.Rams boss Paul Clement is desperate to land a new central midfielder after seeing Will Hughes, Jeff Hendrick, Jamie Hanson and Craig Bryson struck down by injury.Huddersfield Town’s Jacob Butterfield had been on his radar but his £5m price tag is believed to have scared County off.And Derby are now understood to have turned their attention to Stephens.The 25-year-old moved to the Amex Stadium in 2014 from Charlton, after helping the Addicks win promotion from League One.He missed a large chunk of last season through injury but has impressed since his return and has played in all three of Brighton’s Championship games this season.Stephens has helped the Seagulls enjoy an unbeaten start to the campaign and is seen as a key part of Chris Hughton’s squad.But the Bolton-born midfielder is understood to be eager to be closer to his family up north and could be tempted by a switch to Derby.
