Killer jailed for 25 years for Sparendaam murder

first_imgIt was a dismal time in the courtroom of Justice James-Bovell Drakes on Friday after the High Court Judge handed down a 25-year prison sentence to Junior Anthony Henry called “Oswald” for the murder of 22-year-old Michael Hamilton, who was shot dead on October 7, 2013, at Sparendaam Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara.Jailed: Junior HenryHenry was found guilty almost two weeks ago for the murder of Hamilton, whom he shot during a heated argument over a female.A probation report presented in court revealed that Henry’s grandmother, prior to the incident, was informed of several instances in which the deceased would threaten and “chase” the convicted man away whenever he would visit his child’s mother’s home. Moreover several reports to the police where futile.Nevertheless, Henry in the said report expressed remorse for the crime committed and acknowledged that a mother has lost her son, he also begged for the court’s mercy as he is a father of two young children.The State was represented by Sarah Martin in association with Tuanna Hardy while a convicted Henry was represented by Lyndon Amsterdam and Latoya Roberts.Justice Drakes, after handing down the aforementioned prison sentence, advised Henry to let that incident be a lesson to improve himself. He went on to say that Henry will be eligible for parole after serving 15 of the total years given.Police reports had revealed that Hamilton was shot in the chest and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.The crime had stemmed over altercations between the deceased and the convict regarding a female, who is said to be the girlfriend of the now dead man.last_img read more
